The welfare of young people is very important for Whitburn residents and the CDT.  Here are some of the services and organisations working with young people in our area and links to further information on activities for young people.

Active Schools

Active Schools promotes, encourages and provides fun and safe physical activity within the primary and secondary school environment and in the wider community.  Its ethos is to shape positive attitudes towards physical activity and build the foundations for lifelong participation. Community Learning and Development

As well as providing the main youth clubs operating from community centres, Community Learning and Development staff can also help young people have a say in their community and help them get their voices heard.  For more information please contact Louise on 01501 678888.

Football training – Whitburn SCA

Whitburn SCA is a sports association including football clubs covering almost age groups from primary age through to over 18’s.  This is an Accredited Community Club with Child Protection Policy in place and SFA qualified Coaches and First Aiders. In 2012, the organisation was awarded the SFA Quality Mark.  Soccer School on Saturday mornings in the Community Centre is for primary school age groups.  More information about Soccer School and 4 and 7-a-side teams for primary age groups from Hazel Smart 0786 802 5404.  For older age group teams and training contact John Murphy on 01501 741404 or email johnsenior@murphytransport.co.uk

West Lothian Youth Action Project

This organisation operates a detached youth work service (Streetwork) in different areas across West Lothian between Wednesday and Saturday nights from 7- 10pm, with trained staff able to provide information & support on a wide range of subjects such as drug and alcohol information, education and employment advice, health and relationship support and a C-Card provision.  The service is currently operating in Whitburn on a fortnightly basis on Friday evenings, staff operate from project vehicles and carry identification.  For more information please contact 01506 461588 or visit http://www.wlyap.org.uk/

Whitburn Martial Arts Centre

The Whitburn Martial Arts Centre runs classes Monday to Friday, all the times and age groups are available on the web site www.storm-tkd.com in an easy colour code format. The centre is also registered with the British Taekwon-Do council the only governing body recognised by the sports council for Taekwon-Do in the UK.  www.tkdcouncil.com All the information is on the website www.storm-tkd.com in an easy colour code format, and each class has a description as well.

Computer Skills and Silver Seekers from beginners upward, Needle Craft and sewing, Bowling, Gym and Sports Hall, Danceworld, Parent and Toddler Groups, Play Buddies, 50+ Dancing, Judo, Art, Yoga,  Mini Kickers, Soccer School and lots of community groups hold their meetings here.  A Community Association of local people manages the Centre and uses profits from lets to support community activities in Whitburn.  For more information, contact Ian on 01501 678888.

Whitburn Library

Whitburn Library offers a wide range of library and information services to people of all ages living, working or having an interest in West Lothian.  A comprehensive selection of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books is available in a variety of formats, including talking books, CD roms and adult large print.  DVDs for hire. Music CDs may be requested to hire.  There are also 6 PCs available for free public use to access the internet, e-mail or MS office packages.

Whitburn Xcite

Xcite Whitburn has been fitted out with a new deck level pool, sauna and steam room, 3 tier soft play area, gym, spin studio, fitness class studio and new changing facilities!  We also have a teaching pool for babies and young children, a great environment to learn how to swim.

The gym is housed with the latest Technogym Equipment, which is integrated for internet usage!  The new spin studio, overlooking the gym area, is a fantastic space for your workout and we have timetabled in sessions for beginners through to endurance cycles.

Mental Health Options for Older People with Depression (MOOD) is a well established voluntary organisation providing a range of activities for people over the age of 60 who have depression or mental health problems or are at risk of developing these problems.  The project also supports carers.
